//

Are you afraid of the dark? When I was a kid, sleep was difficult as I was always scared of what potentially could be lurking in the dark. Yet I can’t sleep with the lights on, because it’d be too bright so I couldn’t sleep. What I would resort to doing would be to bundle myself up like a burrito with my blanket and hope that that keeps me safe.

As an adult, I’m a bit less afraid of the dark. I could sleep with the lights switched off now but then comes another issue—my mind just can’t keep quiet sometimes. I’d end up sleepless or unable to sleep because my brain just keeps talking to me, be it going through the previous day and replaying parts where I could have done better, or maybe just simply unable to sleep well cos I’m anxious about the next day.

I haven’t really outgrew my fear of the dark totally and neither have I learnt how to just switch off my mind when it’s bedtime. What I found to be helpful was praying, simply talking to God if I can’t sleep or just praying about stuffs/people that I’m concerned about until I fall asleep. Occasionally, I would still have nightmares but it gives me great comfort to know that I can call out to God and He’s just right there. The Holy Spirit is in me and always with me. I’m protected.

So this pin was made to be a prayer, for all who may have a messy relationship with sleep. That we can all sleep in peace and wake up ready to face the new day because we are always watched over by the one above.

Swipe right //➡️➡️ The ‘Sweet dreams’ enamel pin is also designed to glow in the dark to remind us that although there is darkness, there are also beautiful things that light up in the dark too.
